Back from LandonTown!

Hello Melting Pot!
As promised, here are a few photos of my fabrics that I bought in Landontown! Libster and I hit up Goldhawke Rd (our usual haunt for fabric buying) and then went trim shopping in Berwick Street; Kleins, Macullouch & Wallace, John Lewis. A flying visit for us two ninjas!
My fabrics range from; Jersey, Duchess Satin, Velvet (&chiffon mix, thank you rory!), Chiffon, Lace, Silk twill and Tulle. The tulle and polka dot lace are going to be mainly used for texture while the other fabrics are more "base" fabrics but it is the early stages so ideas could change...

I based my fabrics on this colour story from a piece from Tim Burton's MoMA exhibition, loved the clash of deep rich colours mixed with fluffy pinks and turquises;

Next up will be sketcher photos. Stay tuned Melting Pot!

No:3 Wannabe

Hi all!

I'm no.3 in the wannabes! So where do I start? My collection concept started out with the personality of Lydia Deetz from Beetlejuice, taking her gothic routes as inspiration and letting it evolve into wherever it wanted to go! I was sure about one thing and that was wanting to become more intouch with my feminine design side, I guess you could say my style in college was slightly urban/sporty which I love but over the last few months I've grown in my design tastes and am wanting to be a bit more girly while maintaining a slight edginess. I guess grown-up fun is the best way to explain it.

Lydia has gotten me interested in the famished ghouls on the gravestones, which led me to the looking at skeletons and the lines they create, and I've a feeling my design journey won't stop there! I'm quite a texture lover so I hope to convey that in my finished pieces whatever they may be!

I'm mucho excited. Fabric will be bought this week in Landon town, photos from my sketcher will be uploaded after!

Welcome to the melting pot followers.

sometimes inspiration comes in the form of a stink bug

Hi!

This is Barbara, no.2 of the New York three to add to this blog, Claire pretty much explained the concept behind our project so I'l just lala a bit into the idea behind my capsule collection. It is loosely based on tropical insects in particular the assassin bug, the stink bug and the lantern bug, yum yum. And, kids, if i can only figure out how to get a photo on this blog thing, an example of each will follow!

The concept from my end of the melting pot project is not determined only by the production of garments, rather it is the work that i feel like doing at a particular time. This means that along with the clothing, the collection may swing in the direction of photography, drawing, etc, just depends what mood I'm in. For me, its more interesting that way. Watch this space eh....

libs here

Hey melting pot followers welcome to the experiment...I am one of the three designers, lib. As this project goes on you will notice a stark difference in our writing styles, mine is not a fun as the other two so I apologise now.
My design voice is quiet structural and tailored and for this project I am trying to push that more towards feminine floaty elegance to see if I can achieve a nice sculptural femininity balance. I am loosely basing this collection on dragon fly wings but I want a lingerie influence too though knowing me as soon as I start drafting the whole collection alters. The first piece I worked on is a full length fitting dress with panel detail (as this goes along you will see I love panels to the detriment of my sanity). I’ll put up an image of my last work and images of the toiles as they progress and influential images...xxx
